Saffron Black Milk Tea
I LOVE tea. I love the taste of it, but I also really enjoy the process of slowing making a pot just the way I like it. This is a recipe that you can absolutely adapt to fit your liking and enjoy either hot or iced. Day 16 of quarantine and this recipe has given me something to look forward to in the afternoon. I love lightly sweetened black tea with rich spices and a little spiciness at the end. Hope you enjoy!
This makes a batch of tea for about 4 servings—
What you need:
1/4 C of high quality loose leaf black tea (I used Assam tea)
2 1/2 C water
1 C evaporated milk
1/4 C sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp saffron threads (optional)
5 cardamom pods, crushed to release the seeds
1/4 tsp ground ginger
pinch of cayenne pepper
Bring the water to a boil, add the tea, and turn down the heat to medium-high. Let the black tea steep in the water for about 5 minutes. Remove the tea leaves and add the crushed cardamom pods, saffron, ginger, and cayenne and turn the heat to low. Let those flavors sit in the tea for about 10-15 minutes. Strain out the cardamom and saffron and turn off the heat. Stir in the evaporated milk and condensed milk. Ladle out a warm mug for yourself and store the rest in glass jar in the refrigerator. Try over ice the next day. Enjoy!
